Cyclone Yasi - North Queensland

Thoughts to everyone in North Queensland, with reports now that impending Cyclone Yasi will probably be the most life threatening cyclone in Australia for generations, with expected winds of up to 320km per hour. Due to reach land around 1am Thursday, at Cairns. More than Cyclone Tracy where 65 people were killed, and close to Hurricane Katrina proportions where 1,833 people were lost in New Orleans, and where, almost 6 years later the city and her people have still not fully recovered.

30,000 people are being evacuated from Cairns, with a storm surge of up to 7 metres expected, much of Cairns could go underwater.

Qld Floods - let it be over soon!

Living in Australia, we get used to the extreme conditions to a point, that is until something like the Qld floods that are currently threatening life, livestock, property & livelihoods in Qld.

To think not that long ago a large portion of the area now inundated by floods was in drought. Farmers were losing stock & crops to lack of water, now they're having the same horrible outcome from too much water.

I was very saddened to wake up to the news that there are now 8 souls lost (RIP) and another 70 people missing.

I have just read that the flooded area is larger than France & Germany combined!

To my friends in Qld, to any visitors to this blog from Qld, or those of you who also have friends & family under threat, my thoughts & most positive vibes possible go out to you all.

Let's hope Mother Nature eases back a bit and gives everyone a chance to get to safety.
